LFS Crystal Arrays Shipped for Russian PET Medical Scanner Program

Zecotek Delivers First Shipment of a $500,000 Order of LFS Crystal Arrays for Russian PET Medical Scanner Program

Singapore, November 13, 2014 - Zecotek Photonics Inc. (TSX-V: ZMS; Frankfurt: W1I.F), a developer of leading-edge photonics technologies for industrial, healthcare and scientific markets, today announced that it has delivered the first shipment of a $500,000 order of LFS Crystal Arrays to the NIITFA Automation Research Centre for Technical Physics. The Automation Research Centre for Technical Physics is a leading Russian scientific centre of excellence engaged in the development of medical imaging including a positron emission tomography (PET) medical device program. It is working with manufacturing partners to develop PET medical scanners for Russia and the neighboring markets.

“Our well-established R&D presence in Russia and the close collaboration by our Moscow based crystal and photo-detector scientists with NIIFTA, have allowed Zecotek Imaging Systems to gain access to the Russian PET Medical Scanner Program,” said Dr. A.F. Zerrouk, Chairman, President, and CEO of Zecotek Photonics Inc. “By leveraging our superior LFS scintillation crystals and array configurations, solid-state MAPD photo detectors and IDM modules, Zecotek can play a central role in providing the Russian PET program with high performance components. We look forward to completing this initial order and to becoming a key supplier of imaging components to the fast growing Russian PET scanners market.”

Zecotek recently announced an enhanced, patent-pending manufacturing process for LFS scintillation crystal growth and crystal arrays. The enhanced process allows for automated manufacturing of LFS crystal arrays with various sizes and configurations at a competitive price when compared to single element prices.
Zecotek’s patented (US patent No. 7,132,060) series of LFS scintillation crystals are known for their high light yields and ultra-fast decay times which allow for faster and higher-resolution operation of medical imaging equipment including PET medical scanners, and industrial imaging devices used in high energy physics experiments. Zecotek’s line of LFS crystals also cover a wide range of emission wavelengths which can be tailored to match the spectral sensitivity of various photo detectors including Zecotek`s solid-state MAPD photo detector arrays.

Zecotek’s LFS scintillation crystals will be supplied by the Beijing Opto-Electronics Technology Company (BOET), a subsidiary of North-China Research Institute of Electronics-Optics an industry leader in growing, cutting, polishing and large scale production of scintillation crystals grown by the Czochralski method.
