Zecotek has licensed its patented Lutetium Fine Silicate (“LFS”) scintillation crystal material to Northrop Grumman Synoptics under a 20-year exclusive agreement under which Northrop Grumman will markets, manufactures and distributes the LFS product worldwide through Synoptics, a business unit of the company’s Space Technology group, based in Charlotte, N.C. LFS is a new high performance scintillation crystal, developed by Zecotek principally for manufacturers of Positron Emission Tomography (PET) and PET-CT (computed tomography) scanners used to provide diagnostic information for patients in relation to oncological, cardiological and neurological conditions. LFS can also be employed for other uses including homeland security such as port and harbour security for baggage and container screening, product analysis to detect defective food and products, radiation detection for workplace health and security, drug testing, and mineral exploration.
